Pu‘u Maka‘ala Natural Area Reserve
This fieldwork was part of an amazing interdisciplinary course, Experiential Introduction to AI and Ecology, offered by the Ohio State University.
We deployed camera traps and microphones to record long-term bird activity in the Puʻu Makaʻala (PUUM) Natural Area Reserve and conducted drone surveys of the restored forest. We also collected data of the understory of koa and ʻōhiʻa trees.
Here are some native Hawaiian plant species in PUUM.
